Our Roots

Farming roots from the beginning

Six decades ago, the farm grew one variety of potatoes. Today, we have expanded to several varieties of potatoes and several acres of cranberries. The combined potato and cranberry production is sold throughout Vancouver Island, across British Columbia and throughout North America.

In the 1980’s the next generation had officially joined the family farming business. As acreage was increased, an on farm grading and packing facility was built to provide what is known today as farm to fork. The Walsh’s pioneered this practice in BC. All potato production up to this point was directed to be sorted, packed and marketed by Co-operatives, under BC marketing regulations.

Later in the 90’s, cranberries were added to the farm as the expansion of potato production on swamp land was becoming risky. Cranberries were a natural fit for the peat bog expansion. A few years later, Echo Valley joined Ocean Spray to market the cranberry production.

In 2010 another generation of the Family joined the operation bringing a new ideas and energy to continue the journey.

Presently 3 generations of our family are still living and working together here at Echo Valley farms.
